The treatment of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) requires a multidisciplinary approach. The OMS is well positioned to offer the full scope of surgical therapy for OSA patients. Oftentimes, the difficulty arises in what surgical treatment to prescribe, rather than how to carry out the treatment. This session will highlight a data-driven algorithmic approach to clinical decision-making in OSA surgery. Attendees will learn how to efficiently interpret a sleep study, clinically evaluate a patient and use office Drug Induced Sleep Endoscopy (DISE) to finalize our surgical prescription for optimal results. Nuances in planning for maxillomandibular advancement, surgical techniques and management of complications will be highlighted.

Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:
  1. Define the critical portions of the sleep study and accurately interpret results to determine surgical candidacy.
  2. Describe the clinical assessment tools available to create a surgical treatment plan.
  3. Understand critical points of each operation the OMS uses to treat OSA to maximize success.
