Pediatric cranio-maxillofacial (CMF) surgery requires careful alignment of growth, function and esthetics, with each intervention carrying implications that extend into adulthood. This session highlights three contemporary areas where innovation and clinical judgment intersect to shape long-term outcomes.

The first focus, benign pathology and alloplastic implants, addresses how early surgical management balances the removal of disease with reconstruction that accounts for ongoing craniofacial growth. Autologous and alloplastic options will be compared in terms of durability, adaptability and minimizing morbidity in pediatric patients.

Next, digital occlusion and workflow for orthognathic surgery explores how virtual surgical planning, intraoral scanning and additive manufacturing streamline treatment in children and adolescents. These technologies enhance accuracy and reduce operating time while providing new approaches to anticipating growth-related changes.

Finally, cleidocranial dysplasia (CCD) is presented as a model of multidisciplinary management where sequencing of extractions, distraction osteogenesis and orthognathic correction must be timed precisely to optimize eruption, airway function and facial balance.

By integrating timing, technology and technique across these scenarios, oral and maxillofacial surgeons can refine strategies that address the complexity of growing faces with precision and innovation.
