It is necessary to establish and maintain adequate keratinized, attached gingiva with sufficient thickness to resist recession. This presentation will identify the physical findings that indicate a need for connective tissue (CT) grafting in the esthetic zone. Indications will be then used to define the necessary technique used to insert a subepithelial connective tissue graft from the palate under the gingiva to convert a thin gingiva to a thick gingiva. The technique will be shown in detail. Multiple case examples will be used to demonstrate multiple situations including isolated grafting, CT grafting at the time of tooth removal and grafting at the time of implant placement to improve gingival margin position.

Understand the indications for connective tissue grafting in the esthetic zone.
Understand the techniques needed to perform this procedure.
