The management of maxillofacial trauma in the pediatric patient can offer varying challenges. In this presentation, the speakers will discuss how to appropriately evaluate the pediatric maxillofacial trauma patient. There will be a focus on the differences between the management of pediatric patients versus adult patients. Additionally, the speakers will discuss both surgical and non-surgical treatment options for various maxillofacial injuries. Finally, they will discuss the postoperative course, management of complications and long-term follow-up for the pediatric patient. The attendee will leave confident in their ability to evaluate and manage pediatric patients with maxillofacial trauma injuries.

Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:
  1. Provide an overview of an appropriate evaluation of a pediatric patient with maxillofacial trauma.
  2. Discuss surgical and non-surgical treatment options for maxillofacial trauma in the pediatric patient.
  3. Highlight the differences between adult and pediatric maxillofacial trauma.
  4. Describe postoperative evaluation of the patient including management of complications and long-term follow-up.
