Clinical Assistant Professor Michigan Medicine Ann Arbor, Michigan
The purpose of this session is to demonstrate the various roles that advanced practice providers (APPs) can play in the oral and maxillofacial surgery practice. APPs are a relatively new concept for both hospital-based and private practices. They can, however, contribute to dramatic improvements in both quality and quantity of patient care, allowing surgeons to focus on operating and seeing new surgical consults. This session seeks to describe these roles as well as justify the addition of these providers from a financial standpoint. Potential pitfalls and misconceptions also will be addressed.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:
Describe the roles played by advanced practice providers (APPs) in both the hospital oral and maxillofacial surgery practice and private practice settings.
Address financial considerations to justify addition of advanced practice providers to staff.
Address common misconceptions about advanced practice providers such as friction with residents and development of skills specific to oral and maxillofacial surgery.
