Daanesh M. Zakai, BDS, MBChB, MFDS RCSEd, MRCS RCSEd, FRCS(OMFS) RCSEd, is a Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon with a specialist practice in TMJ and corrective jaw surgery at London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust, London, UK, and faculty for the TMJ Surgery Mini-Residency.
Mr. Zakai completed advanced fellowship training in Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) and Orthognathic Surgery at the University of Alberta and Kingsway Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Edmonton, Canada, under the mentorship of Dr. Clayton Davis at one of North America's highest-volume centres for TMJ surgery. His fellowship experience included advanced TMJ arthroscopy, open joint surgery, total joint replacement, orthognathic surgery, and the management of complex TMJ disorders.
He subsequently completed a fellowship in Paediatric Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Great Ormond Street Hospital, London, under the mentorship of Mr. Nadeem Saeed. During this fellowship, he gained experience in the management of craniofacial microsomia, complex paediatric TMJ disorders, craniomaxillofacial surgery, mandibular and midfacial distraction, and complex cleft-related dentofacial deformities.
Mr. Zakai serves as faculty for the Nexus CMF TMJ Arthroscopy Course and the TMJ Surgery Mini-Residency. He has authored multiple peer-reviewed publications and book chapters on TMJ surgery, including contributions to Principles and Practicalities of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Technology in TMJ Surgery. His clinical interests include TMJ arthroscopy, total joint replacement, orthognathic surgery, paediatric TMJ reconstruction, and maxillomandibular advancement for obstructive sleep apnoea. He is passionate about advancing TMJ surgery through education, mentorship, and international collaboration.
