OMFS Resident
University of Pennsylvania
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Sierra van den Dries DMD, MD is a PGY-5 OMFS resident at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. A dedicated clinician with 5 years of experience as a Captain and general dentist in the United States Air Force prior to her oral surgery residency, she has a unique perspective for comprehensively optimizing patient care. After graduating from Penn Dental Medicine in 2017, she completed an AEGD program through the USAF in 2018 and was subsequently stationed in Germany and New Jersey which lead to experiences that continue to influence her growth as a provider. During this time she developed a passion for the immense good that can be rendered surgically in dentistry and decided to pursue OMFS residency. As a resident, she is especially devoted to improving the patient surgical experience. Her research interests under Dr. Eric Granquist focus on optimizing temporomandibular joint replacement treatment protocols. Sierra served as the District II ROAAOMS Representative from 2025-2026 and enjoyed learning more about organized OMFS, supporting residents, and supporting dental students interested in pursuing Oral Surgery. Sierra otherwise enjoys learning as much as she can about TMJD management, hunting for Philly Tex Mex haunts, and tennis and home improvement projects with her husband, Joseph.
