CEO
Simulation Training Solutions, LLC, South Carolina
Carol L. Simmons, MD, graduated from West Virginia University School of Medicine in 1986 and completed residency in Obstetrics
and Gynecology in 1990. My first employment opportunities were as a faculty member in the OB/GYN Departments of the University
of South Carolina and the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. The importance of education of medical students and
residents, particularly in emergent situations during a delivery, was inherently clear to me. Since being at the Medical University of
South Carolina, I have had the privilege to develop Obstetric emergency learning systems from developing online curriculum for
study prior to the simulation laboratory experience, to programming the specific scenarios to be used in the laboratory setting. I
have programmed such courses for student nurses, hospital nurses for competency, medical students, OB/GYN residents, faculty, and practicing physicians, as well as developing an Obstetric Emergency course for the US military that has been used in US military hospitals across the globe. I have also taught workshops both nationally and internationally for practicing physicians and hospital nurses in obstetric emergencies. I am the co-designer of a patent involving an automatic delivery module for a leading healthcare simulator manufacturing company that is used in their current obstetric manikin. Currently, I serve as the CEO and co-owner of a simulation education development company with Dr. John J. Schaefer, who developed and instructs many of the OBEAM courses for AAOMS.
