Practical, evidence-based strategies are necessary to improve outcomes in everyday oral and maxillofacial surgery. Leading experts will review current best practices in antibiotic stewardship for third molar surgery, effective communication systems to prevent wrong-site extractions and team-based approaches for safe anesthesia delivery. Attendees also will gain updated insight into the management of pediatric dentoalveolar trauma and explore innovative grafting techniques to enhance keratinized mucosa in challenging ridges.

Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:
  1. Describe how to implement an evidence-backed, streamlined protocol for the use of pre-, peri- and postoperative antibiotic therapy in the extraction of third molars.
  2. Discuss strategies to improve referral and team communication to prevent wrong-site, wrong-tooth extractions.
  3. Recognize how to successfully add a second provider to an anesthesia team and the pitfalls to avoid.
  4. Review the current state and advances in pediatric dentoalveolar trauma.
  5. Develop patient-specific strategies to increase keratinized mucosa on an atrophic ridge.
