Pediatric Craniomaxillofacial Surgeon Seattle Children's Hospital Seattle, Washington
A visible scar after surgery serves as a constant reminder to a patient of their underlying pathology/indication for surgery, the surgical procedure itself and the recovery process. Minimal scarring after a surgical procedure can improve the patient's quality of life and increase patient satisfaction. A skin closure technique will be presented to help predictably improve cosmesis. A review of important soft-tissue wound healing concepts as well as postoperative scar care protocol will be presented to empower the OMS to minimize the scar burden after surgery.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:
Understand soft-tissue wound healing stages and timeline.
Describe a technique for closure of skin which leaves minimal scarring.
Describe postoperative scar care protocol to optimize cosmesis.
