Pain diagnosis and treatment is a fundamental skill for any oral and maxillofacial surgeon. OMSs deal with acute and various chronic pain that may be difficult to manage due to restriction of opioid narcotic use, compromised medical status, comorbidity or drug interactions. This presentation discusses pathophysiology of pain, diagnosis and management of a variety of subcategories of pain and special considerations and alternative medicine in pain management.
