Shahid Aziz is a Professor of Otolaryngology at Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine, is a Diplomat of
the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a
Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, and a Fellow of the International College of
Dentists. He is also a Visiting Professor of Surgery, East West University, Dhaka, Bangladesh and one of
only two OMS who are members of the Society of University Surgeons. He is a graduate of The
Lawrenceville School and Rutgers College. Shahid received his dental degree from Harvard University
School of Dental Medicine and his medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and
Surgeons. He completed his general surgery and oral/maxillofacial surgery training at New YorkPresbyterian Hospital-Columbia University Medical Center. He has authored or co-authored over 60
peer reviewed journal articles and 30 book chapters and edited 3 textbooks. Shahid’s clinical area of
expertise includes facial trauma and reconstruction and orthognathic surgery. He is Past President of the
New Jersey Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and Chairman of the Section of Dentistry and Oral
Health of the New York Academy of Medicine. Shahid Aziz is the co-founder and President of the NJ
based non-profit Smile Bangladesh. A 1st generation Bangladeshi-American, Shahid has been leading a
small team of surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nurses to Bangladesh since 2006. To date, he has led 30
surgical missions to Bangladesh and provided free surgery to about 2000 children and adults with cleft
lip and palate deformities. In 2006 Dr Aziz received the prestigious Faculty Educator Award from the
American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS). Dr Aziz is also the 2017 recipient of
AAOMS Humanitarian Award for his charitable work in Bangladesh and in global surgery. After 20 years
as fulltime faculty at Rutgers University, in 2022, Dr Aziz assumed the role of the inaugural Division
Director, OMS at Hackensack Meridian Health, the largest hospital system in the State of New Jersey.
In 2025 Dr Aziz reached the milestone of 2500 orthognathic surgeries completed thus far in his career
